Calhoun City Native Sean Cannon Named Interim ICC Head Coach

FULTON, Miss. (WCBI/LetsGoICC.com) – Itawamba Community College President Mike Eaton has announced Sean Cannon has been named interim head football coach for the Indians.  Cannon has been a member of the ICC coaching staff for the last four years as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.

“Coach Cannon is the logical choice to assume the responsibilities as interim head coach until we can have a recommendation for board approval,” said Eaton, who is also the school’s all-time winningest football coach.  “We consider Coach Cannon a strong candidate for Coach Williams’ successor.”

Cannon replaces Jon Williams, who earlier this week stepped down to accept a position as the new assistant head coach and director of player personnel at the FBS level with the University of Southern Mississippi.  Williams spent seven seasons at Itawamba and served as head coach the past four years, where he had a career record of 21-16, three runner-up finishes in the MACJC North Division and one playoff appearance.

ICC Athletic Director Carrie Ball-Williamson informed the players, who reported this week for the first session of summer school, in a meeting last (Tuesday) night.

“I simply said we’re stable and that you’re in capable hands with Coach Cannon in charge,” said Ball-Williamson, who was inducted into the MACJC Athletic Hall of Fame earlier this spring.  “It was well received by our players and we’re going right along without missing a beat.”

Eaton added a permanent replacement will be announced on June 17.
