Calhoun County 9-1-1 System Needs Repairs

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -Calhoun County ‘s E-911 system has an emergency of its own and county leaders are trying to fix it as soon as possible.

The tower that serves the county’s 911 dispatch antenna at the rear of the sheriff’s department recently was struck by lightening.

That strike knocked out much of the system’s software.

This means dispatchers can’t quickly identify the address or location of a call.

Identifying the address helps save precious minutes to response times.

Friday, supervisors agreed to lease-purchase a new system at a cost of about $150,000.

The county’s insurance will cover about $90,000 of the new system.
