Calhoun County Getting Out of Prom Business

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Another Northeast Mississippi school district is getting out of the prom business.

The Calhoun County school board voted Thursday night to do away with school-sponsored proms. Principals at the county’s three high schools cited costs, liability and low attendance as reasons for their recommendation.

About 60 percent of the school districts in the state have cut out proms, leaving them for private groups to organize and sponsor.
