Calhoun County Wildlife Buffet

PITTSBORO, Miss. (WCBI) – The Multi-Purpose building in Pittsboro was the place to be for a taste of the “wild” life Monday (2-11) night.

Scores of people made their way through the line at the Calhoun County Wildlife Tasting Buffet.

Dishes were broken into several categories including, fin, feather, fur, deer and wild hog. Winners in each category received 20 dollar gift certificates.

Jerry Moore took the overall honors for his Smoked March Hare in Romoulade Sauce.

Extension agent Trent Barnett says, “You’ll see duck, turkey, deer meet. Sometimes it will be elk, stuff, just whatever people have in their freezer that have gathered up this year. Some of them go out West and hunt and some of it will be game that they have gotten locally.”

Eric Michel, a doctoral student a Mississippi State was the featured speaker. He talked about the regional differences in body and antler size for white tailed deer.
