Two Northeast Mississippi legislators get new positions.

Tishomingo County Republican Bubba Carpenter has been named chairman of the House Fees and Salaries Committee. Carpenter is in his fifth year representing Alcorn and Tishomingo counties. If state employees, county officials or teachers get a pay raise this year, it could start out in his committee.

Meanwhile, West Point Democrat Karl Gibbs has been Agriculture, Military Affairs, Elections and Youth and Family Affairs committees.

Gibbs was elected to the House last year after the death of his father.

Meanwhile, Tupelo state senator Nancy Collins has been named chairman of the legislature’s Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review.

The Republican already is chairman of the Senate Accountability and Transparency Committee.

The 14-member PEER Committee is made up of House and Senate members and serves as a watchdog group for state and legislative activities.
