NEW ORLEANS, LA (WCBI) -Super Bowl XLVII kicks off Sunday and the CBS Network is broadcasting the big show from New Orleans for the world to see. WCBI News was in town for the action and was able to gain access behind the scenes of the big production in historic Jackson Square.

All week long the City of New Orleans has been host to CBS Network, which will broadcast Super Bowl 47 Between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. But it was last year when CBS broadcasted the Final Four, when planning for the Super Bowl Park took center stage.

VP Tyler Hale with CBS Sports Video Production says, “We mapped out what our idea was to have a large scale CBS Corporate presence with all the different divisions in town for the week. From there we scouted locations, we scouted facilities, logistics exedra.”

What came next was months of planning and approval from community groups. City officials and planning committees to put on the big show at the historic Jackson Square.

According to Hale, “The main thing is when you come to a city like New Orleans the reason for being here is the charm and the spirit and that’s something we tried to copy here. So we worked with a couple of different set design groups, one a local group and one from New York we use a lot.”

Part of that planning meant old oak trees, railing, rod iron work and flower beds, to account for when building the 5 seperate stages to accommodate 15 seperate shows. CBS Sports, CBS Entertainment and CBS News all are broadcasting shows. That’s a lot of cameras.

Hale says, “Six or seven cameras per stage, so five times six or seven you are looking 30 to 35 cameras with in this park alone.”

CBS crews began mid January closing Jackson Square to make the Super Bowl experience a big hit, where fans are enjoying all the action.

Hale says, “It wasn’t easy. There has been a lot of tough budget conversations thats expected but the mission was togo down for the Super Bowl which is the biggest there is for sports entertainment and I think we’ve done a pretty good job accomplishing that.”

And the fans agree. Super Bowl Park at Jackson Square has been a hit and crowd favorite for Super Bowl fans visiting New Orleans for the big weekend.
