STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – State Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney says they’re working to do what’s best for Mississippi under the Affordable Care Act.

Chaney was in Starkville on Monday speaking to Rotary Club members about health insurance and how the Affordable Care Act is affecting Mississippians. According to Chaney, less than 500 state residents have signed up for Federal health care plans offered under Obama Care. However, Chaney says his office is working diligently to provide assistance to Mississippians, especially small businesses.

“We have developed a small business health option plan for small businesses in the state. We hope to roll that out within the next six months it will include people like United Health Care and probably Blue Cross Blue Shield that will offer policies. They are not subsidized, they’re not part of the federal government marketplace. They’re totally independent of the federal government and it’s for small businesses only,” says Chaney.

This was Chaney’s second report given to the Starkville Rotary Club on health insurance this year.
