Charities Named for LPGA Legends Handa Cup

WEST POINT, Miss (Press Release) – Old Waverly Golf Club announces the two charities that will benefit from the LPGA Legend’s Handa Cup event Sept. 25-28.

Sally Kate Winters Family Services in West Point and the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi in Tupelo will both receive proceeds from the ISPS Handa Cup competition being hosted by Old Waverly Golf club this fall.
The ISPS Handa Cup is an international team event that pits U.S.-born LPGA Legends against internationally born LPGA Legends in 36 holes of medal match play competition.

Old Waverly Founder, George Bryan, says the charities chosen each play an important role in our community. “Sally Kate Winters Family Services has been providing a haven for at risk children and families for almost 25 years. Family is a big part of what makes Old Waverly special so partnering with Sally Kate Winters was a logical fit.”

The Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi assists families and patients in need of medical and health care assistance. “The Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi helps offset the financial burdens many patients face in getting quality health care,” says Bryan, “We are especially impressed with the Foundation’s involvement and support of the North Mississippi Medical Center’s cancer fund. Almost all of us have been touched by someone dealing with cancer. “

The Legends Tour is the official senior tour of the LPGA and features competition for LPGA veterans age 45 and over.
“Old Waverly is proud to once again host a premier golf event in Mississippi, continuing our long relationship with the LPGA and women’s golf,” said George Bryan, founder of Old Waverly Golf Club, which hosted the 1999 U.S. Women’s Open won by Juli Inkster.

The Legends Tour showcases more than 100 members, including 12 LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members. In addition to Old Waverly favorites Nancy Lopez and Juli Inkster, legendary standouts such as Beth Daniel, Pat Bradley, Patty Sheehan, Laura Davies, Sally Little and Jan Stephenson have previously teed it up in the ISPS Handa Cup.

Grounds passes are $10 per day and are available at all Galloway-Chandler-McKinney Insurance offices, most Renasant Bank offices, and all Miskelly Furniture outlets. You can also get them online at www.thelegendstour.com and www.oldwaverly.com. A clubhouse pass can be obtained for $25 per day.

“This is truly an event for the entire family and a great way for sports fans to see that athleticism, class and competitive spirit are ageless,” Bryan added.
