Chase in Lowndes County Ends in Ala., Yields 2 Arrests

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit were take over state lines during a chase Thursday night.

Investigators were following up on leads connected to an ongoing investigation into the possible manufacture of methamphetamine in Lowndes County. After attempting to initiate a traffic stop on Highway 69 S. on a red Geo Prism. The vehicle did not yield to officers, which resulted in a brief chase. The driver of the vehicle, 52-year-old Ethelsville, Ala. man Edward Swedenburg, led deputies three miles into Alabama.

At some point during the chase, the vehicle stopped for unknown reasons, and deputies proceeded to apprehend the driver, and a passenger, 47-year-old Columbus resident Randy Brownlee.

Swedenburg was arrested and charged with possession of two or more precursors with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and other misdemeanor traffic violations. Brownlee was arrested and charged with the same charges, sans traffic violations.

These arrests are part of an ongoing investigation.
