City Gets First Ranked Female Police Officer

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Three Columbus police officers get new ranks tonight and one of them makes history in the process.

Veteran officer Terrie Songer became the first female officer to hold a rank in the department when she received her corporal’s badge.

Songer is one of five women on the force.

She joined new corporals Rick Higgins and Bill Smith in getting their new badges during ceremonies before the City Council Tuesday night.
