VERNON, Ala. (WCBI)-A Lamar County man has filed a $1 million dollar federal lawsuit against the city of Vernon and the Vernon Police Department.

38 year-old Jamison Carr was accused of attempted murder and second-degree assault in February of 2012.

Officer Brandon Stephens claimed Carr made a statement of trying to run over and kill a man.

In October 2012, the jury found Carr not guilty of all charges after Stephens admitted under oath that he lied on his police report.

Carr’s charges and fees amount to more than $250,000 dollars.

Carr’s suit claims his civil rights were violated, negligence on the part of the city, police Chief Ted Collins and the officers, false arrest and imprisonment and wrongful prosecution.
