Clay County Gets Mobile Command Center

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – When disaster strikes, emergency responders need access to resources and supplies that are critical to saving lives.

Officials in Clay County have opened a new mobile command center that will allow first responders to remain for an extended time period on a disaster scene.

The truck and trailer were both paid for by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department Seized Drug Fund and was no cost to taxpayers. The Command Center will have first aide supplies, fuel for vehicles, and sleeping facilities for emergency workers.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott expects to have the center up and running by December 1st.

Scott says the Mobile Command Center will also provide service to surrounding counties in the event of a disaster.

“When something happens in the community, you have a missing elderly person or missing child, you need a command station at one point where everybody can gather and information can be shared among the 1st responders. So we’re really excited about it. Again, we learned a lot from last year,” says Scott.

Sheriff Scott plans to have another trailer loaded with emergency equipment used in a major disaster.
