CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Clay County suffered damage when straight line winds came through Thursday afternoon.

Trees are down and homes damaged in the Cedar Bluff community in Clay County. High winds traveling through the area knocked over trees and power lines, blocking roads. Crews were on the scene clearing the debris.

“It cleared my carport, big flower pots and everything. Blew over a big oak tree eight feet in diameter, roots and all, it turned it over. Thank goodness it landed the other way,” Cedar Bluff resident Hubbard Wooten said.

“Trees were going everywhere and I thought they were going to fall on my house. It started raining really bad and everything started flying off my car port. It sounded like something was going to fall on my house,” said Lacey Whitt, a Cedar Bluff resident.

Wooten is a member of Cedar Bluff United Methodist. The steeple of the long standing community church blew off in the storm.

“The church is around 50 years old. We’ve been working on that thing like everything the last four years,” Wooten said.

No injuries have been reported in Clay County at the time of this posting.
