Columbus Approves Budget

COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI) Columbus city leaders approve their budget.

The council approve the city’s $23.2 million dollar budget Thursday night.

Property taxes will not go up with a set rate of 107 mills for the new budget year. About 60% of that is for city schools while the remainder covers police, fire, public works and the city’s share of the state police and fire retirement fund.

It includes a $2 increase in the city’s monthly trash collection fee and takes $326,000 from reserves.

The new fiscal year begins October 1st.
