COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus leaders give final approval to a $5 million bond issue. And they say they still are shooting for major road and drainage work to begin by September.

Tonight’s City Council vote was unanimous. The city’s project managers will meet with council members Wednesday to trim a $6.3 million project list down to the estimated $4.5 million the city will have to spend. The city should have the money by the end of July and engineers hope to take bids in August.

The city may divide the projects into two groups, completing some this fall and the rest next year.

The council also approved new citizen input rules that require residents to fill out forms six days in advance, limit talks to five minutes and sets a three-times-a-year limit on appearances.
