COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A deadly shooting at a Columbus nightclub has some city leaders calling for more restrictions.

Timothy Barker, 32, was shot in the parking lot of Club Hiediho early New Years morning.

Billy Kennedy, 30, has been charged with murder.

The club has been the scene of violent incidents before and officers have been called to the business for various reasons.

Columbus Mayor Robert Smith says he and police are discussing ways to handle any nightclub, where officers are consistently having to answer calls.

“Any place where we have deaths occur, where we’re constantly having problems with violence occurring, is to either declare it a nuisance or there are steps that we are going to take to wheres it will be a safe environment,” said Smith.

The council is expected to discuss the issue at its Tuesday night meeting.
