Columbus Firefighters Honored

Eight Columbus firefighters, on duty during the Jamestown Apartments fire back in October 2014, were given the Mississippi Firefighter Of The Year Award in Brandon, MS on Friday, February 6. The Award was presented to the firefighters by Governor Phil Bryant as part of the Hearts for Heroes Banquet. The award was given to Battalion Chief Jr. Lancaster, Captain Tommy Massey, Captain Chip Kain, Captain Ray Whitson, Engineer Randall Beatty, Engineer Sam Collier, Firefighter Darryl Brown, and Firefighter Herbert Tedford for their bravery, courage, and training displayed in rescuing a family of 4 from the burning apartment complex. Chief Martin Andrews and Mayor Robert E. Smith, Sr. were also in attendance at the banquet.
