Columbus Firetruck Catches Fire During Controlled Burn

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A building went up in flames today on Columbus’ east side.

The blaze was a controlled burn on Cherry Street as the dilapidated dwelling went up in flames.

The contained burn is being used as a teaching tool, allowing these first responders to sharpen their skills in the event of an actual emergency fire call.

The routine training lesson went off with one small glitch. An electrical spark and malfunction with one fire truck required the department to send another to replace it.
