Columbus Magnolia Bowl Officially Under Construction

COLUMBUS, Mis. – (WCBI) The historic Magnolia Bowl in downtown Columbus is getting new life.

Crews from Columbus Light and Water are completing demolition of the south wall, press box and concession stand. The utility will use the old concrete brick for rip rap. The old stands will be removed later.

The Columbus school district plans to turn the remainder of the 81-year-old facility into a labyrinth walking track and outdoor study area for students at adjacent Franklin Health Magnet School and the community.

A $20,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield grant is paying for much of the work. The last football game was played at the stadium in 1998 and except for a few community events, it’s been mostly unused since then.
