COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus kicks off the new year with a deadly shooting at a Southside night club that has been the scene of several police calls in recent months.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says 32-year-old Timothy Barker of Columbus died at Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital this morning. Police say he was shot at least once at about 12:20 at Club Heidi Ho on 22nd Street South between Main and College streets.

A 30-year-old man is in custody and is expected to be charged tomorrow, police say.

Capt. Brent Swan says the club was hosting a New Year’s Eve party when an altercation started inside and the two men argued before shots rang out.

Columbus officers have responded to a number of calls at the club in recent months. Police still are investigating.
