A suspect is charged with murder in a Labor Day shooting on the Northside of Columbus.

The shooting left one dead, another injured, and a suspect behind bars.

“When my mother screamed you know, I ran to the door and all I seen was a guy laying out and people scattering,” said Gary Williams, Columbus.

When shots rang out in an otherwise quiet neighborhood on Labor Day, Columbus resident Gary Williams and others living near the corner of MLK Drive and 22nd Avenue North again found themselves dealing with the violent death of another citizen of the Friendly City.

Alexander Brown will never see his 20th birthday.

“It is such a tragedy to see a young bother you know loose his life and to see other young brothers that maybe caught up in this you know what I’m saying. Its a no win situation,” said Williams.

Police arrested 19 year old Dominique Ivan Chambers, Monday night.

By Tuesday morning, he was charged with murder.

“You know trouble has no spot. You know, and that’s what’s scary. You know we are in a good neighborhood and you would think everything would be good. But this happened in this neighborhood,” said Williams.

“Well of course its a tragedy for the city of Columbus and we are hoping that we don’t have many more cases like this. But the Columbus Police Department will continue to do their job to make sure that the citizens here are safe,” said Glenda Buckhalter, PIO CPD.

Police investigators are not giving a motive for the crime, but Williams wonders if the Labor Day shooting could have something to do with another shooting several months ago that claimed the life of Alexander Brown’s cousin.

“Those activities may have lead to what happened yesterday in his way. You know, cause its kind of hard to forget about some things you know, in which we should,” said Williams.

Another victim, Andre Williams was also injured in that Labor Day shooting.

A bullet apparently grazed his chest.

“It was senseless and you know we need to come together as people you know, in these communities,”added Williams.

Columbus police continue to investigate.
