Columbus Students Learn About Body Image

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Students in Columbus are getting a crash course on body image.

On Friday, the Junior Auxiliary of Columbus hosted “Choose Your Path” presentations at Columbus Middle School and Columbus High School.

Students got to hear Julia Taylor, who encouraged the girls to make better choices that will impact their future.

Organizers say too often women of all ages are pressured by the media, and it can bring down their self esteem.

“Everything they see on television, in magazines, in books and movies has been airbrushed, photoshopped, and they think that this is the expectation for them and it’s not realistic,” said Esther McElhinney, Junior Auxiliary of Columbus.

Julia Taylor is a nationally recognized author and speaker on relational aggression, body image and media literacy.
