Columbus Tinkers With Health Insurance

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — About 260 Columbus city employees will see some changes in their health insurance in October.

But in most cases, the changes will benefit them and taxpayers.

The city’s Insurance Committee will ask the City Council to reduce the employee deductible from $500 to $100. At the same time, the out-of-pocket costs will increase from $1,500 to $2,000.

Overall, the changes should help taxpayers avoid most if not all of a projected $16,000 increase in insurance costs next year in the city’s budget. That will mean less money coming from reserves to help balance that budget.
