Columbus to Pay More for Liability Insurance

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Three or four major police claims combined with some others in the last three or four years catch up with the city of Columbus.

Insurance consultant Eddie Mauck told the city council today those factors combined with a tightening insurance market contributed to a 15 percent increase in the city’s liability insurance premiums.

The city paid about $260,000 this year to cover everything from weedeaters throwing rocks to fires destroying city buildings. But the new policy that takes effect Wednesday will cost $315,000

The city paid about the same amount a decade ago but has seen premiums decrease slightly since then.
