STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A merged Starkville-Oktibbeha County school district could be a model of innovation while addressing basic education goals from the classroom up, according to to the draft of an action plan expected to be presented to legislators as early as next week.

The commission which has met 15 times since the Legislature forced the merger last May will meet at 9 Tuesday morning to finalize the plan.

That meeting will be at the Greensboro Center board room via teleconference.

It includes everything from a reverse bond issue to raise money to repair existing county elementary schools to a partnership between the new district and MSU for a pre-kindergarten and a school for sixth- and seventh-graders on the university campus.

In addition to changes in state law, one sticking point could be state funding for school buildings and renovations.
