STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- Over 4,000 people packed Humphrey Coliseum to listen to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Her words even attracted people from across state lines, like Alabama resident and former MSU student Laci Keys.

“I actually moved back home to Alabama and so I saw on twitter that she was coming so I was like, I gotta go, cause I’ve always admired Dr. Rice,” said Keys.

The former Secretary of State spoke about America’s involvement in the War on Terror and the Middle East process. But for many at the program, it was her personal stories that left them feeling inspired.

“My favorite part of her speech was when she said it doesn’t matter where you came from, it matters where you’re going and I think that’s something we all should take to heart and follow,” said Keys.

Rice was the second woman and the first African-American woman to serve as Secretary of State. A title that means so much to some who were in the audience.

“I think she’s an inspiration to me as a Black woman. I’ve always looked up to her since I was a little girl so getting to see her in person was definitely a great experience,” said MSU grad Donae Reggans.

” Her compassion and her drive, that really came through in everything that she said and that she does. You can really tell that she’s passionate about her work and I feel that’s something you have to have to be good at what you do,” said MSMS student Andrew Smith.

And the students couldn’t be happier that a woman who once held so much power, took time out of her schedule to reach out and motivate them.

“This is the first time in my lifetime to ever see someone of that magnitude! And also I think it’s great exposure for the University,” said MSU senior Ty James.

Rice is now a professor in global business and the economy at Stanford University.
