STARKVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI) Could Starkville and Oktibbeha County merge its administrative staff before bringing students under one district?

It’s one of the many ideas tossed around by the Consolidation Committee who met Thursday night.

While combining administrations would have saved around $350,000, it is an option that did not pass. That decision is now set in stone, but money matters, especially involving county bonds and land, remain fluid.

Members do agree that developing partnerships with Mississippi State University is essential.

Committee members believe creating an educational trifecta, would likely secure financing and help this consolidation become a model for future mergers in the state.

A final plan must be ready to go by January, when the state legislature reconvenes.
