Corinth Commission Seeks Boost in Funding

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) — The Siege and Battle of Corinth Commission is asking the Corinth Board of Aldermen to raise its budget by $50,500.

A local newspaper reports that commission chairwoman Rosemary Williams says the increase will help cover operating costs and payroll for one year at the Verandah-Curlee House.

She says the current budget is not adequate to operate the site though plans are in place to make the site self-supporting within two years.

Aldermen did not immediately act on the request.

The siege of Corinth took place between April and June 1862. The Battle of Corinth was fought in October 1862.

The Verandah-Curlee House was built in 1857 by Hamilton Mask, one of Corinth’s founders. During the Civil War, the home was a headquarters for Confederate and Union troops.
