Cost of Planned CAFB Gun Range Continues to Increase

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Cost for a gun range to save Columbus Air Force Base $100,000 per year in training costs continue to rise.

Supervisors today approved a $464,000 contract to Edge Construction for fencing and a 20-foot berm that will be the backdrop for the 24-lane shooting range. That pushes the cost of the project to almost $1.7 million, far above the one and a half million the state is contributing.

Lowndes County and Columbus are covering some of the costs through land donations and other site work. But they still must agree to as much as $170,000 each in cash to cover the difference.
