Starkville, Miss. (WCBI) – The Cotton Mill project is moving closer to becoming reality.

A ground breaking ceremony is set for March 20th, according to Mississippi State University Vice President for Research and Economic Development Dr. David Shaw.

The development calls for MSU’s Cooley Building to house a conference center, a parking garage, hotel, and other businesses.

National Parks Service approval was needed because the building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

MSU will sell and lease portions of the property, while using some its office space.

Starkville is using an $8 million block grant to fund the project.
