Councilman To Keep Campaign Donation

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) – A Tupelo city councilman, who is running for re-election, says he will not return a $250 donation from Waste Management Inc. because there was nothing illegal about it.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/11XWUgG ) that Councilman Mike Bryan accepted a $250 contribution in February from Waste Management, which currently picks up trash for the city.

With the contract expiring on July 31, the city council will likely vote on a new contract within a month. Waste Management is among three companies vying for the new contract.

Municipal party primaries are Tuesday. The general election is June 4.

Bryan says in a statement that he reported the contribution as required and broke no laws. He says campaign contributions have not swayed his vote and will not in the future.
