County Employee’s Husband Held in Oktibbeha Shooting

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) — On July 25, 2014 at approximately 8:30 P.M., Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office received a call that subjects had followed what they had believed to be a stolen four wheeler to 734 New Light Rd. The person on the four wheeler was confronted and shots were fired. Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office responded to 734 New Light Rd. to find that one person had been shot and was transported to Oktibbeha County Hospital with Non-Life Threatening injuries. The suspect was still on scene and deputies detained the suspect. Because the suspect’s spouse is an employee of Oktibbeha County, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations was requested to take over the investigation. The deputies secured the scene and waited for an Investigator to arrive and the scene was turned over to MBI. The suspect, Wayne Monts, 33,of Maben, Ms was transported to the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department and detained for MBI. At the time of this press release at 1:30 a.m., MBI was still interviewing persons involved in the incident and no official charges had been pressed. The victim had been treated and released from Oktibbeha County Hospital. The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office has turned the investigation over to MBI so any further information that can be released will have to come from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations from Troop G.
