STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- CSpire announces plans to build one of the nation’s top high-end data centers in Starkville. Economic and business leaders made the announcement Thursday afternoon during a press conference.

“It’s a $20 million investment, it is a 6.5 acre site here in the Thad Cochran Research Park, 220,400 square ft. facility in phase 1 and 3 phases are possible,” said Kevin Hanks, CSpire’s COO.

Officials say the new facility is a huge milestone for the Golden Triangle and Starkville community.

“It’s a big deal, we’ll be offering cloud services to government agencies and to businesses in the region. It’s the first class data center in this region. This region has been undeserved. So c spire is growing and diversifying as a technology company. It’s a natural extension of our business, so we’re excited. It will be a big deal for this area and big for the region,” said Hankins.

Local leaders and economic developers say the new center will also help attract new businesses, investments and growth.

“You’ve got a massive construction project, that’s just the start. That will generate direct jobs and this is a project that has high-tech capacity that it’s adding to the area. So it’s offering infrastructure to potentially generate more jobs in the future and make this community a bigger draw than it was before,” said Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman.

Not only will it help the economy, it’s also a big boost for the county’s education system.

“When you look at the mileage to the city schools, it’s going to be between $225,000 and $250,000 a year. Any time you’re going through a consolidation in any county in Mississippi, it requires revenue and funds. These will definitely assist in that consolidation,” said Joey Deason, COO of the Golden Triangle Development LINK.

CSpire plans to break ground on the new facility next month and complete phase one November 2014.
