COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Palmer Home Thrift Store employees in Columbus got a scare this morning when a deer came crashing through the window.

Ecola Hanks was working at the front register after 9:00 Thursday morning when she was startled with the big crash.

You can see the medium sized doe in the store surveillance video.

It ran right through the front window and eventually made its way to the back of the store.

The deer got out through the back warehouse and ran under a fence to an open field.

Fortunately no one was hurt during the incident and no customers were near the front register when it happened.

“I just heard the big boom and then when I looked and saw the glass broke, I didn’t see the deer at first, I glanced over my shoulder and the deer was on me. I took off running and screaming. This is the first time this has happened here and hopefully the last,” Hanks said.

“I just looked over and saw legs kicking everywhere and hangers flying everywhere, and this deer takes off flying down one of our aisles. She had a big cut on her side, and a bleeding mouth. She took off to go out to the field and ran into the fence again and again. Then she found a little hole and took off there,” said cashier Josiah Andrews.

Employees say they are a little shaken up, but doing okay. The Palmer Home Thrift Store will still be open normal hours while they clean up the broken glass and work on window repairs.

The Columbus Police Department and Columbus Fire Department responded.
