Diamond Dogs Ranked No. 16 in Perfect Game Preseason Poll

STARKVILLE, Miss.  (WCBI/MSU Athletics) — Mississippi State baseball has garnered its second preseason top 20 ranking for 2013. National baseball scouting service Perfect Game has the Bulldogs listed at No. 16 in the online publication’s annual preseason rankings released Tuesday.

State was picked 13th in the first national preseason poll announced last month by Tucson-based Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

North Carolina nudged out Arkansas for the top spot in Perfect Game’s Top 25. Included in the poll are seven Bulldog opponents, all members of the Southeastern Conference: No. 2 Arkansas, No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 5 LSU, No. 7 Florida, No. 11 South Carolina, No. 13 Kentucky and No. 19 Ole Miss.

The Bulldogs launch formal team preseason practice with a 4 p.m. scrimmage at Dudy Noble Field. MSU will also scrimmage Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., and all the practices are open to the public.

State hosts Portland Feb. 15-17 in a four-game weekend series to begin a school-record 37-game homestand. MSU plays its first 19 and 23 of its first 24 games at home before opening SEC road competition with a three-game set at Kentucky Mar. 22-24.

Perfect Game’s Top 25 will be released each Monday morning throughout the upcoming college baseball season.
