COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and the Columbus Police Department hosted officers from the Golden Triangle for a special training.

Trainer Paula Broom came from the State Attorney General’s Office to review domestic violence procedures and to give an update on current laws. Each year, thousands of women and children nationwide enter domestic violence shelters to escape abuse. Columbus Police Chief Sylvain McQueen says he wanted to provide the best training possible for officers.

“As a result of so many domestic violence situations, we brought her in and we want to be well-versed in the law because we do realize that this is a problem not only in the city of Columbus but nationwide as well,” says McQueen.
