VARDAMAN, MISS. (WCBI) – The town of Vardaman is opening the doors of a new social venue downtown. Once the home of Hill’s Department Store then vacant for many years, the extensive renovations began on the historical building in early spring. Vardaman Residents have come together to see the historic space in use once again.

The “Front Porch” is the newest place to be in downtown Vardaman and the walls are filled with rich history. Built in the 1900’s, the building was one of the first in the town of Vardaman.

“One of the main buildings for a really long time but it’s been vacant for probably 20,25 years. Nothing has been done with it,” said Vardaman Mayor, James Casey.

The town acquired the building almost a decade ago, and residents wanted to see something done with the space.

“Always try to preserve things from the past. You hate to forget all the people who were involved in developing the town and building the town,” said Mayor Casey.

The “Front Porch” has a rustic, timeless design to it, which is in high demand as a venue.

“Everybody wants an antique building fixed up to meet in and have wedding receptions and things like that in,” said Mayor Casey.

Renovation efforts into the historic building have become a community effort. Many hours of labor and materials have been donated by Vardaman residents.

“I’d hate to start mentioning names of people that’s donated. There’s been numerous people here in town from different aspects, brick layers, carpenters and electricians,” said Mayor Casey.

One wedding reception has been held at the Front Porch already and volunteers say they are excited for the future of the venue.

Rental fee for the venue is $200 plus a $100 refundable deposit fee.
