Video: Eupora Post Office Busy For The Holiday

EUPORA, Miss. (WCBI)-This is considered the busiest day of the year for the United States Postal Service. Post offices across the country are expected to process tons of pieces of mail.

Even in the town of Eupora with a population of just over two thousand people, there is still a lot of movement.

But don’t be deceived by the size of the Webster County post office, when it comes to moving pieces of holiday mail to it’s destination for Christmas Day….postal workers there are doing their part.

“South Texas is where I’m from so I have to send a bunch of packages there. So we’re not going there this year, but we are thankful that the post office is so quick and easy about getting everything you know to a far off place,” said Stephanie Stewart, Eupora.

And whether that package is headed north south east or west, there is that mad dash to have it wrapped stamped and on it’s merry way.

“I’m sending it to a father-like figure. Mr. Dan Pelt in Michigan. Yeah, well he has been like a father to me for years you know, and we are sending him a gift,” said Lonnie Potts, Eupora.

Potts didn’t tell us whats in that box, that will be kept a secret until it arrives in The Great Lake State.

“Well I sent my daughter some gloves, a hat something like this., because its sop cold in New York. My son-in-law the same thing you know. And I have to say I did send them some thermal underwear,” said Jean Shephard, Eupora.

The practice of sending and receiving emails is more popular than ever. However, there are many people who still prefer to communicate with others by using regular mail sent by way of their hometown post office.

“When I sent those packages I put a little note in there saying ‘Merry Christmas’ and ‘Happy New Year.’ Be thinking about you,” said Shephard.

The busiest mailing day for Christmas cards is Wednesday.
