Rainwater Observatory and Planetarium in French Camp, Mississippi is gearing up for its annual Midsouth Stargaze and Astronomy Conference coming up March 26-29, 2014! This four day event generally attracts serious amateur and professional astronomers from all over the United States. It is held under one of the darkest skies in the southeastern United States just off the beautiful Natchez Trace Parkway near the village of French Camp, Mississippi.

Join us this year for fun, fellowship, observing, and fascinating lectures by professional astronomers such as galaxy researcher, Dr. William Keel from the University of Alabama, comet researcher, Dr. Donna Pierce from Mississippi State University, extra solar planet researcher, Dr. Angelle Tanner from Mississippi State University and much more!

Rainwater is one of the largest observatories in the southeastern United States with over 24 high powered telescopes such as a massive 32” Tectron reflector and a 26” fully robotic research grade Cassegrain telescope. We have a large camping area with a pavilion, picnic tables, men’s and women’s showers and bathrooms, electrical outlets on the hill, 14 bed air conditioned bunk house, four grills and five campfire pit areas with surround seating. There is a Bed and Breakfast, Council House Cafe, Lodge, Memphis Guest House and other additional lodging located within a mile of the observatory.

A $45 registration fee per person is required for the conference before March 4th (due with registration form). After March 4th the fee is $55. Registration as well as reservations for food, on site lodging and camping can be made by contacting our French Camp Guest Services Department at 662-547-9988 or guestservices@frenchcamp.org.
