Rising Nashville star and American Idol finalist Skylar Laine will headline the kickoff concert for the 2013 Caledonia Days, it was announced today by the Caledonia Days Committee and the Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), a co-sponsor of the annual fall festival scheduled this year for Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19. The kickoff concert will be held in the Ola J. Pickett Park beginning at 7 p.m. with an opening performance by the Alabama band Win Wheel and with Laine taking the stage at 8:30 p.m. Other Friday night attractions include a children’s area with rides and games, concessions and a fireworks display capping the evening’s festivities at 9:45 p.m.

Saturday’s slate of family-friendly activities begins at 8 a.m. and includes a 5K run, a dice run, a car and tractor show, a lawnmower race and a pet parade. Booths for food and craft vendors will be open all day, with local musical talent performing throughout the day on the festival’s center stage.

“Caledonia Days offers a great opportunity for people of all ages and interests to come together and have a good time,” said Tami McCool, Caledonia Days Committee member. “Our activities have real cross-generational appeal.”

Organizers believe the concert will also have broad appeal. A former Mississippi resident now relocated to Nashville, Skylar Laine reached the finals of the eleventh season of American Idol and later participated in the American Idols LIVE! Tour in the fall of 2012. Win Wheel hails from nearby Vernon, Alabama.

“Caledonia Days has grown in popularity to become a beloved family tradition for residents throughout the region,” Nancy Carpenter, Director of the Columbus-Lowndes CVB, noted. “Fresh and exciting talents like Skylar Laine and Win Wheel will make the perfect addition, to make this year’s Caledonia Days the best yet.”
