We will have a Safety Day along with Family Fun Day sponsored by Volunteer Starkville. The time of this event will be from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Project Title: “Be Bike Smart! -Wear A Helmet!”
There is nothing more important than our youth safety, especially when it comes to preventing head injuries. The Longview Disciples 4-H Club each year selects a project that would help improve the quality of life for individuals in our community. The goal of this years project would be to increase the use of bicycle helmets, thereby reducing the number of head injuries and deaths caused by bicycle crashes. The club would work with local organizations to help educate youth and their parents on the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet.
Bicycle Safety classes, and bicycle rodeos would be scheduled by the club with fun activities for both youth and adults. The target age group would be for youth ages 6-18, and to provide each participant with a free bicycle helmet after competing a four hour bicycle course that would engage youth in fun learning activities on bicycle safety. There would also be a poster art contest, where participants could win a free bicycle for their entries. Prizes will be donated from local organizations for the poster contest.
