Christmas Madrigal Dinner presented by St Andrew’s UMC Chancel Choir & Youth
Date(s) - 12/08/2012
AMORY – St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Youth will be presenting a Christmas Madrigal Dinner on Saturday, Dec. 8, and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. in the church’s Family Life Center.
“This is the first time we have ever done anything like this. We have been practicing since the end of July for this event. We wanted to reach out to the community and offer something different for the Christmas season. This is a Christmas feast and celebration of the King Jesus Christ. It is not a secular event,” said Elane Finley, music director.
A Madrigal Dinner is a dinner theater set in the 15th or 16th Century. Choir members are costumed as members of a royal court and the people in the audience are received as guests in a castle. All music will be a cappella as it was sung in those days. The dinner will combine the fantasy of visiting another place and another time. It will feature the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the joy it brings and has always brought to all believers in every age.
There will be comedic drama with the Jester and Troubadour.
The meal will feature wassail, a real roasted boar’s head, and a flaming dessert.
At the end of the feast, the audience will be blessed by a concert of sacred Christmas music.
Tickets are $10 per person and went on sale Nov. 12. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Dec. 3. They may be purchased by calling the church office at 256-2301 or from any choir member.
