You are invited to a public meeting regarding land use planning around Columbus Air Force Base.

The Golden Triangle Development LINK, in cooperation with the Lowndes County, City of Columbus, Columbus Air Force Base, and other agencies and organizations in the region, is preparing a Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) to address compatibility planning around Columbus Air Force Base. Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) is a cooperative land use planning effort conducted as a joint venture between an active military installation, surrounding cities and counties, state and federal agencies, and other affected stakeholders. The overall goal of the JLUS is to protect the viability of current and future missions at Columbus Air Force Base, while accommodating growth, sustaining the economic health of the region, and protecting public health and safety. Compatibility between the community and military involves achieving a balance and/or compromise between community and military needs and interests in order to promote an environment where both entities can coexist successfully.

The JLUS assesses 23 compatibility factors (man-made and/or natural factors), to determine which are pertinent, these include but are not limited to:

· Land Use

· Safety Zones

· Noise

· Light and Glare

· Energy Development

· Interagency Coordination

· Frequency

· Water Quality / Quantity

· Vertical Obstructions

· Roadway Capacity

The public is invited to join us at the second JLUS public meeting. This meeting will provide a review of the compatibility issues identified to date, and will seek public input on identifying priority issues that have the greatest impact on compatibility. A list of common compatibility tool types that will help guide the JLUS recommendations will also be presented.

In order to develop a plan that is responsive to local needs, input from the public is crucial.
