AMORY – The Amory Police Department Special Response team is hosting a golf tournament as a fund-raiser Saturday at Riverbirch to raise money for new equipment.
“We formed our team in 2008 and local businesses helped support us then. Those funds have finally dried up and we’re in need of touching up uniforms and we’re looking to purchase a new rifle and new vests, in addition to other pieces of equipment,” said Lt. Nick Weaver, commander of the APD’s Special Response team.
The unit is used for any active shooting situation, whether it be in a residential, school or office setting; in serving any high stakes warnings; in any hostage situation; or crowd control.
“We’re ready for service whenever we’re needed to supplement the main patrol,” Weaver said.
The special response team was approached by Roy Foster and Larry Clark about having Saturday’s fund-raiser.
“We’re very grateful for them being instrumental and helping out and we really want to thank all the local businesses who are helping sponsor the tournament,” Weaver said.
The golf tournament is Saturday Nov. 10 with registration beginning at 10 a.m., lunch will be provided at 11 a.m. and tee off begins at noon. The 18-hole best ball tournament will be comprised of four-man teams. Entry fee is $45 per person.
