grimes-artwork-2The work of Plantersville native Chadwick Grimes is on display in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center gallery at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus through Feb. 15.

The exhibit consists of 24 of the most recent oil paintings by Grimes, who is a 2003 ICC alumnus. According to Shawn Whittington, ICC Fine Arts instructor, “Grimes is an acolyte of traditional painting in the style of the old masters such as Rembrandt and Titian, both of whom he cites as influences. His work is primarily figurative, and symbolism plays a significant role in his visual language.” Grimes’ paintings combine old master techniques with allegorical subject matter reflective of the modern era.

In 2010, Grimes was invited to study with Odd Nerdrum, internationally-renown Norwegian painter, in Oslo, Norway, and Nerdrum’s influence is clearly seen in Grimes’ work. Currently Grimes is preparing for his second trip to Norway for another internship under Nerdrum in April.

A reception is scheduled for Grimes from 3-4:30 p.m., Feb. 14, in the gallery.

Gallery hours are from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., weekdays.
