New Albany Main Street is getting ready for Hill Country Halloween & Chili Cook-Off.
The event will be held in downtown New Albany on October 27, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The chili cook-off starts at 4:00 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the New Albany Main Street office located at 135 East Bankhead Street (old post office) or available online at www.newalbanymainstreet.com. There are various prize categories including “Crowd Favorite” voted on by the attendees, first place, second place, best original recipe, best cook’s costume, and best creative tent. Deadline for entries is October 19, 2012. Tickets for sampling the Chili will be $8 for adults and $3 for children 10 & under. The Chili Cook-Off will be on Camp St. Hot Dogs and drinks will also be available for $1.
The costume contest will begin at 4:30 p.m. Eligible costumes must be costumes that you or a family member made or had custom made, or one that has incorporated a really creative idea to add to a purchased costume. Entry fee for the costume contest is $2.00. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be awarded to kids, adults, groups and pets.
Activities, games and crafts will be available for kids to enjoy on Court St. Face painting, tattoo art, Sugaree’s Cookie Decorating, Performing Arts TumbleBus, basketball throw, balloon animals and a photo booth. There will be inflatables, a fire truck and ambulance to tour and hay rides will go on throughout the event. Game tickets will be 10 for $5.
The New Albany Step Team will start off the entertainment at 4:00. The Partlow Drummers from Tupelo will march in at 5:30 and head a 2nd line parade for everyone to join. Beads and candy will be thrown. Kenny Brown and his band headline the event with his powerful cry and moan singing style of the hills at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment will be on the Court House lawn.
