July 11, 2013 – – Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi is once again asking local celebrities to put on their dancing shoes to raise funds for the children of our community. “Over the past years, we have been fortunate to have very willing and generous celebrities participate in this annual event,” said Evie Boyd, Director of Marketing. “Each year the event has continued to grow in support, raising over $175,000 in 2012. It has become well respected by our North Mississippi community.”

This year’s Celebrity Dancers are: Dr. Anne Haire, Peggi Phillips, Amanda Hayden, Ashley Buse, George Stone, KC Grist, Barbara Clements, Judy Hill and Emily Leonard all representing Tupelo, Matt Koon representing New Albany, Laquita Wilkerson representing Ripley and Ruby Lee Lancaster representing Houston.

A special, opening hip hop rap performance will be given by Margaret and Katherine King, twin sisters from Oxford who are also raising funds for the Oxford clubhouse. This year, a special Spirit of Dance Award will be given to the small town community (Ripley, Oxford, Houston or New Albany) raising the most funds. The plaque will be placed in the Clubhouse of the winning community and passed each year to the winning community Clubhouse.

“Our Board and leadership work hard to encourage a regional community spirit among our Clubs – it’s not an individual effort at all, we all win collectively when our Clubs fulfill their mission. We felt that a new community award would be extra incentive to encourage participation and fundraising outside of the Tupelo-Lee County area. We know everyone is anxious to see which small town community will receive this year’s bragging rights.”

Each celebrity is paired with a professional dancer from The Dance Studio of Tupelo. Each couple will perform one dance. The grand champion is chosen, not on the judge’s score, but on the amount of money which they raise for the organization.

Chief Professional Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi, Zell Long expressed excitement over this year’s celebrities. “We are thrilled that another great group of individuals have agreed to give of their time and their talents to benefit our club members. We invite everyone to purchase tickets early, and start supporting your favorite celebrity!” Dinner tickets are $50 and general admission seating is $20. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available online at www.bgcnms.org.

The event will be held on Saturday, August 24th at the BancorpSouth Arena and will include dinner, a silent auction and performances. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy music provided by The Edd Jones Orchestra.

One of the main attractions of the evening is always a performance by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tupelo Ballroom Dance team. The group is made up of youth who have studied ballroom dance at The Dance Studio and showcase the skills which they have learned on that evening.

WTVA’s Julee Brown and Radio DJ Craig Horton will be returning as celebrity emcees.
