Miss Tupelo/Lee County Hospitality Pageant to Be Held in March

TUPELO, Miss—The Tupelo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) is reorganizing the Miss Tupelo/Lee County Hospitality Pageant and will crown a goodwill ambassador for the tourism industry. TCVB is currently seeking contestants for the “tea pageant” that will be held Saturday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the TCVB.
“We are bringing back the Miss Tupelo/Lee County Hospitality Pageant to create a goodwill ambassador for Tupelo tourism,” said Neal McCoy, TCVB Executive Director. “This young lady will help us tell Tupelo’s story, showcasing all of the wonderful things that Tupelo has to share with its visitors.”
The Miss Tupelo/Lee County Hospitality Pageant will consist of two separate competitions. First, contestants will wear a suit and engage in a five-minute interview with a panel of judges, accounting for 60% of the total score. Next, contestants will wear a black cocktail dress and present a 20-second live commercial about their community, accounting for 40% of the total score. The contestant with the highest score will be named the 2014 Miss Tupelo/Lee County Hospitality. The winner is required to participate in the state Miss Hospitality Pageant in Hattiesburg, MS, July 20-26, 2014.
Local pageant application forms may be picked up at the TCVB at 399 East Main Street in Downtown Tupelo. Contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 24 and should be enrolled in or have plans to attend a Mississippi community college, college, or university. Applications and a $25 application fee should be returned to the TCVB by Friday, March 21.
The mission of the Mississippi Miss Hospitality Pageant it to identify, honor, and utilize young ladies between the ages of 18 and 24 for the purpose of promoting Mississippi’s tourism, industry, and economic development internally and externally by serving as the state’s goodwill ambassador. Since 1949, the Mississippi Miss Hospitality Pageant has celebrated the intelligent and gracious qualities of young women across the state. Last year, forty young ladies from across Mississippi competed for scholarships and prizes totaling more than $100,000.
