Natchez Trace Parkway Announces Free Junior Ranger Programs, Extended through July

(TUPELO, MS)– The Natchez Trace Parkway will continue its Junior Ranger programs at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center through July. The programs will be conducted Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. and will cover natural and cultural history topics that are related to the Natchez Trace Parkway. Parkway programs are free to the public and are most appropriate for children ages 7-12.

Junior Ranger Program Schedule for July 2013

July 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

“Picture This” Release your inner artist as you explore the Park and learn some basics of photography. Junior Rangers may bring their own camera, or one may be available to use or share.

July 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

“Nature Bingo” Grab a “Nature Bingo” card and head into the woods. Junior Rangers will have to look closely at the plants and trees to get a bingo!

July 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

“Mammal Masquerade” Unmask the mysteries of mammals on the Natchez Trace Parkway and make your own animal mask to take home.

July 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

“Fish Printing” Get creative and make your own colorful fish art on paper or your own t-shirt. *Must bring your own plain t-shirt to decorate.

“Nature Trail Detectives” Explore a nature trail and practice the skills necessary to become a Nature Trail Detective.

June 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

“Sensory Overload” Use all of your senses to learn about the animals of the Natchez Trace Parkway.

June 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

“Awesome Outdoor Adventure” Have you ever camped in the great outdoors? Help a Park Ranger set up a tent, roll out a sleeping bag and learn to start a campfire.

June 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

“History’s Mysteries” Use your detective skills to uncover the stories behind artifacts of the Natchez Trace.

June 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

“Muskets and Marching” Practice a drill and learn all about 18th century military life.
