HOUSTON – The annual pageant and musical revue sponsored by the Houston Community Theatre is in rehearsal and Director Janet Coker is having a holiday blast.

“I’m so excited,” Coker said. “We’re having so much fun. This is literally the best one we’ve ever done.”

The theme for this year’s event is “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree” and will feature holiday dance acts along with the pageant that shows off the beauty and grace of students at Houston Middle and Houston High Schools.

“We have over 60 girls in the pageant and they’re about evenly split between the middle school and high school,” Coker said.

The event will be held Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium and tickets are on sale in the school office for $6 each.

Proceeds will benefit the Houston Community Theatre’s spring production of “The Sound of Music.”

In the meantime, contestants are busy at work on their pageant walks as well as their dance routines in and outside of organized rehearsals.

“Some of the girls are calling their own practices,” Coker laughed. “They want to be step-by-step perfect, and they will be.”
